Welcome Hessonite

October 15, 2013

Showing the same poise she has in all her races, Champion Hessonite walked off the van at Lantern Hill during the Keeneland September Yearling Sale and settled right in to the next phase of her career.

Selling in our consignment on November 4 as hip 64 in the Fasig Tipton November Sale, William Punk and Philip DiLeo's 2012 New York Champion Older Female is a pleasure to be around---in spite of the toughness she needed to win nine stakes in 22 career starts.

Hessonite won on dirt and turf, from two to five, with an overall career record of 11-3-1, earning $879,644.The New York bred turf specialist proved her class in open company this year, taking Belmont's G-3 Beaugay in her first start of the year.

After finding herself behind a wall of horses in the stretch of the Beaugay, Hessonite swung four wide and sprinted clear for a 3/4 length victory. Jockey Junior Alvarado said, "all I can tell you is that she was unbelievable. Once she was clear, she just took off right away, like she was coming out of the gate. It was amazing.”

Besides her talent, looks and soundness, Hessonite hails from an active international stakes family, which includes New Zealand Champion fillies King's Rose (G-1) and Anabandana (G-1).
