Strike Silver appeared hopeless as late as the sixteenth pole, but uncorked a furious rally to just get up in the Indian Summer S. Sunday at Keeneland, in the process clinching a spot in the starting gate for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.
The sale-topper at OBS October, the dark bay was a narrow first-out winner June 14 at Churchill and just missed when second by a neck in the GIII Sanford S. July 21 at Saratoga. Made the fourth choice first time on grass here, he quickly dropped out to the rear of affairs and sat a good dozen lengths off of a sharp :21.68 quarter. Saving ground while still able to see them all on the turn, he tipped four wide at the top of the lane and started to come into the picture at the furlong grounds. Really picking up steam in the final sixteenth, he closed relentlessly to just nail 'TDN Rising Star' Chelsea Cloisters, who had inherited the lead from the tiring frontrunner.
The winner makes it a second success on the weekend in a 'Win and You're In' race for the Juvenile Turf Sprint for his sire, following up Its Gonna Hurt in the Speakeasy S. Saturday at Santa Anita. He has a yearling half-sister by Summer Front and his dam was bred to Creative Cause last season.
